Peter and Abe preparing for the show (who was the Affleck and who was the Damon??)
Many years ago (a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away) I did a radio show on community radio here in Sydney called Smeg Radio! with my friend and co-conspirator Abe. The show was named after the very popular cuss word used in the BBC show Red Dwarf. The premise of the show was that we would read stuff from this new fangled thing called ‘the internet’ and then make comment about the latest rumours, news, gossip and stories about SF, fantasy and television. Built on a deep love of comics (Abe), Doctor Who and Star Trek (me) and then all things in between we rode the wave of popularity for shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Babylon 5, the ongoing success of the later iterations of Star Trek, the rumours of a Doctor Who return and then the rise and rise of the early Marvelverse, the stilted return of Star Wars and a whole heap of shows and movies no one can remember. We interviewed authors, stars and became members of the extended Star Wars universe (see https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Peita_Aabe) which is character based our our conversations with Star Wars author Sean Williams.
From the original website
Smeg Radio is hosted by Abe and Peter, both of whom have extensive experience in the SF area, which translated mean they both have no life and watch a hell a lot of TV and read a small municipal library worth of books every week. They both hate Farscape (sorry Farscapers!), thought Spiderman was malignant and think George Lucas had done immense damage to a wonderful universe. They both firmly believe that when you compare David Duchovny, David Boreanz and piece of 4 by 2 mahogany timber you could not tell the difference except for the small dimple on Duchovny’s chin. What is it with actors named David? Maybe William Shatner’s real name is David Shatner.
* Smeg Radio is not a number, we are free men
* To every generation there is born a Smeg Radio
* Smeg Radio is the New Hope and the Attack of the Clowns
* Smeg Radio wear the same nylon as William Shatner
* Smeg Radio believe all actors called David can’t act
* Smeg Radio wholeheartedly believes the lie
Oh, and it was through interviewing her on the show that I met my wife of nearly twenty years, because she ran a very early X-Files website called the Desk for Dana. So, on this show we play songs that were played between spoken word bits, regular features, our backing music as well as a few tracks generally inspired by the shows and movies we adored. And then there are some treasured memories, promos, and the show intro for you to enjoy. Please be kind, it was 25 years ago. Technology and our repartee are not what they used to be.
